With their smart suits and ability to actually play their instruments the Pleasers Quartet were at the forefront of the new wave of guitar-based groups that swept through the Britain’s music industry in the late 70’s.

They wrote and performed great songs with superb harmonies, jangling guitars and pure sixties drum fills, and their live shows brought back the fashion for being surrounded by cool guys wearing thin ties and screaming mini skirted girls.

As proud Londoners, the group described their sound as Thamesbeat but you might know it better by the name their music was given by press of the time: Powerpop. Yes The Pleasers were the group who gave birth to the title that defines strong melodic pop to this day.

Being and entertainer was unavoidable for Kevin. His father was a singer/pianist, his mother a 1950′s model and members of his family appeared in films alongside the likes of Richard Burton, Peter Sellers, Michael Caine and David Niven.

It was from around the age of five that Kevin first discovered ‘the American song book’. Singing Pennies from Heaven accompanied by his father, who’s constant renditions of Gershwin, Porter and Berlin were to leave an irreversible impression.

Come Fly with Me

I Get a Kick out of You

Lady is a Tramp

By his early twenty’s, Kevin found himself in the company of and performing with other like minded aficionado’s. Their profound knowledge and musicianship helped forward his studies. These included the likes of American saxophonist Spike Robinson, John Crithinson (piano accompanist with Ronnie Scott), and bass player Lennie Bush, who sessioned on Frank Sinatra’s album ‘ Great Songs from Great Britain’.

Kevin has performed at a huge variety of venues, ranging from top London Hotels (i.e The Savoy, Dorchester etc.), The Institute of Director’s, The Variety Club of Great Britain, many corporate events (large and small), jazz clubs, weddings, stately homes, large hotel groups (UK and overseas), Southend Airshow and even at a primiership football match @ Southhamptons’s ground St. Mary’s.

With his immense stage presence. Kevin delivers his tribute in a sophisticated manner the great Sinatra deserves. He proves, without question, that when you possess the same impressive vocal ability as Sinatra, being an exact ‘lookalike’ is not needed to recreate Sinatra in his vocal prime and mature years. He performs effortlessly not only the less challenging songs but also the more vocally difficult. In his act he uses only the best quality live recordings of American big band arrangements or can be backed by anything from a piano to a full piece big band. The result of all this being a truly memorable experience.

Penny Pamplin 30th September 2006 Venue ; The Bell Public House.
Sorry its taken so long for me to get back to you but I just wanted to say what a fantastic singer Kevin is as Frank Sinatra he made my wedding day go off superbly. People haven’t stopped talking about it and with kevin singing I achieved the atmosphere I was looking for. Everyone thought he was fabulous so I can’t thank him enough for making my day!

Please could you pass on my thanks.

Kind regards
Penny.

Kevin is an amazing guy in everyway:
“Take one special occasion, add over a hundred guests, sprinkle a little light and some fine wine to taste. Once all of this has been thoroughly mixed, slowly include your Frank Sinatra and you will find you have the perfect night. Kevin (from here on known as Frank) was the epitome of professional entertainment going so far as to allow the groom to sing along with him.

When I first saw Frank enter the room I was a little apprehensive as he was dressed as the young Frank, this assumption was dashed by his choice of songs. They not only enhanced a time we shall never forget but reflected in our opinion the great style and uniqueness that was Frank. In a sentence, I want this man at our birthdays, weddings, christenings, Christmas…….. I think you get the picture. It only leaves me to thank Frank for being with us. Thank you Frank (Kevin)”
We are pretty sure he will have future bookings from our friends.

Thanks so much.

Reviews
“That was fantastic, what a great voice” – Sir Trevor Mcdonald

“Wow, when you and the band started playing we couldn’t believe how
good you all were – we’ll definately have you back again” – J. Todd, Unilever Head Office, London

“My client was very impressed by you and your band, so much so that they want us to make sure you’re booked again for their next event” – The Finishing Touch Event Co, London

“Thank you so much for a fabulous performance last night. We will definitely book you for next year” – Karen Peters, Reed Business Information Ltd., Surrey

“I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to Kevin. He was absolutely fantastic! He exceeded our wildest dreams and each and every one of our guests commented on the quality of the performance. Kevin managed to get everyone dancing and it created a magical atmosphere that’s hard to put into words. It was a “broadway” performance that truly deserves praise and thanks. Thank you for enhancing and completing the most special day of our lives, and whenever the next family event comes along he will definitely be at the top of our list!” – Nicola & Julian , Cheshire

“Kevin is the best act we have ever booked.” – Beverley Sidnell, City Group PLC

“There is much more to being a tribute act than the right make-up and costume, as is proved by the marvelous Kevin Fitzsimmons. His Sinatra relies ostensibly on a remarkably astute vocal tribute. With a perfectly natural timbre to his voice he immediately conjures up Old Blue Eyes in his glory years. His choices for the afternoon were impeccable, offering the audience a glimpse at Sinatra the lounge singer, with the familiar Witchcraft to open, I’ve Got The World On A String and closing with the louche, almost melancholy One For My Baby”.

The look of love
The tender trap
The way you look tonight
They can’t take that away from me
Things
Too close for comfort
Too marvelous for words
Volare
Where or when
Witchcraft
With plenty of money and you
Wives and lovers
You brought a new kind of love
You’d be so easy to love
You make me feel so young
You’re getting to be a habit
You’re nobody ’til somebody loves you

Heaven are a four-piece band based in North London. They were formed in 2000 and consist of Nick (Vocals/Guitar), Steve (Vocals/Keyboard), Vincent (Bass) and Philip (Drums). Individual performers/musicians/characters/, each immensely talented and unique alone but brought together by the fusion that is Heaven.

Twin brothers Nick and Steve have been writing and performing music together for many years. A few years ago they decided to expand their set-up from duo to bans and broad spectrum of musical interest, that love to perform. They spent almost nine months looking for the right musicians to share their vision and after meeting like minded Nick M and Pete the transformation was complete and Heaven was born.

The band have a vast repertoire of material which allows them to adapt to any given scenario. From Pop – Rock – Disco – Dance – Motown and Ballad, they have something for everyone, a multitude of “Old Favourites” for all ages, tastes and events.

A seven-piece band specialising in 70s and 80s disco, funk and soul, and renowned for its breathtaking vocals, fat, funky grooves and sophisticated image. Ten years’ experience at weddings, corporate events, TV, radio and festivals in the UK and Europe.

Boogie Oogie are one of the few party bands in the UK to combine the disco, funk and soul classics of the 70s and 80s, More Boogie provide an unmissable live experience. A dynamic seven-piece band, they have honed a distinctive sound of breathtaking four-part harmonies and the fattest, funkiest grooves.

Each member has a wealth of performance experience: at Glastonbury Festival and the Mercury Music Awards; on TV (Top of the Pops, Later with Jools Holland) and radio (John Peel, Sean Hughes); and with artists such as Basement Jaxx, MJ Cole, D-Ream, Roots Manuva, Kym Mazelle, The Shamen & Urban Species.
Authentic Japanese Classical Music presented by a trio of experienced performers.

Surprisingly pleasing to the Western ear, Japanesque offer a guided tour of the colourful and little-known Japanese repertoire. Pieces range from the 18th century chamber classic Kurokami (Black Hair), to the well loved popular song China Night. Twentieth century Japanese compositions are also featured, showing the influence of Debussy, Ravel and other European composers.

The clear, ringing chords of the Koto (Japanese harp) and the ethereal purity of the Shakuhachi (bamboo flute) will delight even the most jaded listener.

Rié Yanagisawa (koto, shamisen, voice) wears full formal kimono and headgear.

Akikaze No Uta (Autumn Melody)

The Members
Rié Yanagisawa – koto, shamisen, voice
Rié Yanagisawa’s father was a professional Japanese singer, and Rié has studied the koto since the age of eight. Since settling in London she has performed and given masterclasses all over Europe, including the Royal Albert Hall and St John’s Smith Square.

Clive Bell – shakuhachi, flute
Clive Bell is a musician and composer specialising in Far Eastern musics. He studied the shakuhachi in Tokyo with Kohachiro Miyata. Recently he has played live on Radio Three’s Late Junction, and worked with Jah Wobble, Complicite Theatre, the BBC Singers, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Clive’s solo shakuhachi CD was reissued on the ARC label in 2005. He writes for The Wire magazine.

Stuart Jones – cello
Stuart Jones was a member of seminal electronics group Gentle Fire, touring internationally and working with John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen. He now composes and teaches at the London College Of Communication.

The Instruments
Koto

a harp-like instrument whose history spans twelve centries. The six foot long wooden body has moveable bridges to facilitate turning. The strings (originally of silk) are plucked with plectrums worn on the right hand.

Shamisen

this Japanese lute has a box-shaped wooden body covered with skin, a long fretless neck, and three strings struck with a large plectrum. Traditionally the shamisen is used to accompany singing or theatre.

Shakuhachi

this is the haunting, five-holed bamboo flute, still used today by Buddhist Zen monks as a meditation tool. Also popular in the past with samurai warriors, its eerie sound is heard in both folk and classical music.

Think rock, pop and soul and you think electric guitars, drums and keyboard. But why should a musical style be restricted by it’s instrumentation? With this in mind, vocalist Tim Hood approached arrangers Timothy Kraemer and Bill Thorp with the idea of reworking a collection of classics such as Jimi Hendrix’s Purple Haze for string quartet, bass and voice.

The result is Strung Out.
